Dundee has been named as the UK’s most fuel friendliest city

Dundee has officially been crowned the most fuel-friendly city in the UK, offering drivers the lowest petrol prices in the country.

According to a new study by Ovoko, an online marketplace for used car parts, motorists in Dundee pay just £1.25 per litre for petrol – making it the cheapest place in Britain to fill up.

The study looked at fuel prices across cities and counties in the UK, comparing them with average local incomes to see where people get the best deal. Dundee came out on top, with locals spending just 2.71% of their monthly income on petrol. The city was given a perfect score of 100 for affordability, putting it well ahead of other areas.

Fuel costs can vary a lot between different parts of the UK. In some places, the price per litre can be up to 24p higher than in Dundee.

That difference adds up over time, meaning drivers in other areas might be paying hundreds of pounds more each year.

Several parts of Northern Ireland also ranked well in the report. County Tyrone and Belfast followed Dundee closely, with prices around £1.26 per litre and spending at 2.73% of income. Armagh and Antrim came next, with prices at £1.27 per litre.

At the other end of the scale, Dumfriesshire in Scotland was found to be the most expensive place for petrol. There, prices reach £1.49 per litre – a big jump from Dundee’s rates. Drivers in Dumfriesshire spend over 3.2% of their income on fuel.

Other high-cost areas included Ross-shire, Peeblesshire, and Inverness-shire, where prices were around £1.36 per litre.

Experts suggest that distance from suppliers, limited competition, and difficult terrain may all be reasons why fuel is more expensive in these locations.

Dundee’s top ranking is good news for local drivers, especially during a time when many households are trying to save money. With lower fuel costs, residents can keep more of their income for other daily needs.
