Dundee has been recognised as one of Scotland’s most environmentally clean places in a new nationwide study assessing air quality, green space and overall living conditions.
The report, compiled by Online Marketing Surgery alongside Water and Air Management, examined towns and cities across the country using publicly available data. Each location was scored out of 100 based on factors including air quality, drinking water standards, access to parks, waste services, and levels of noise and light pollution.
Dundee placed second overall with a score of 82.10%, ranking just behind Falkirk, which achieved a perfect 100%. The study suggests Dundee performs strongly across several environmental indicators, reflecting improvements in public spaces and waterfront regeneration in recent years.
Edinburgh ranked third with 75.38%, followed by Kilmarnock and Dumfries. Six of Scotland’s eight cities featured within the top ten, highlighting what the report describes as “high overall standards of environmental quality” in urban areas across the country.
Further down the list were Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness, Livingston and Perth. Scores were calculated by combining results across multiple categories and taking an average to determine overall performance.
A spokesperson for the research team said the findings show the importance of clean air, safe drinking water and well-maintained public areas in shaping quality of life. While such rankings often spark debate, the study places Dundee firmly among Scotland’s strongest performers when it comes to environmental standards.
For Dundee, the recognition adds to a growing list of positive national mentions in recent years, as the city continues to balance regeneration with green space and environmental quality.
