Court De Padel eyes Dundee for major new indoor racket sports centre
Plans have emerged for a major new indoor racket sports centre which could open in Dundee, featuring 12 padel courts and two pickleball courts.
Court De Padel is looking to transform a vacant industrial unit at 8 Tom Johnston Road, in the east of the city, into a new indoor sports facility.
A full planning application has been submitted to Dundee City Council seeking permission to change the use of the building from an industrial unit into what is described as an indoor "racket hub".
And documents submitted as part of the application have now revealed more about the scale of the proposed development.
A Transport Statement prepared on behalf of Court De Padel confirms plans for 12 padel courts and two pickleball courts, alongside ancillary facilities and outdoor amenity space.
The building has been vacant since 2024 and the proposals would also see its existing car park reconfigured.
If approved, Court De Padel expects the Dundee facility to operate between 6am and 11pm every day of the week.
Plans include a total of 92 vehicle parking spaces, six of which would be accessible bays, while 12 spaces would have electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Up to 20 cycle parking spaces and six motorcycle spaces are also proposed.
The Transport Statement estimates that the development could result in up to 30 vehicles arriving and another 30 leaving during an hour around the changeover between court bookings.
Despite this, the assessment concludes that the development would result in only a small overall change in traffic compared with the site's existing permitted industrial use and would have no material impact on the surrounding road network.
The proposals mark another significant step forward in Court De Padel's plans to establish a presence in Dundee.
Earlier this year, the company revealed plans to expand into Scotland, with terms agreed on potential sites in Dundee, Perth and Edinburgh, subject to planning permission.
Padel has experienced a huge rise in popularity in recent years. Usually played as doubles, the racket sport combines elements of tennis and squash on an enclosed court where the surrounding walls can form part of the game.
Dundee already welcomed its first dedicated padel courts at Forthill Community Sports Club in Broughty Ferry in November 2025, while the scale of the latest proposals would represent a significant expansion of the sport's presence in the city.
Court De Padel's application for Tom Johnston Road is currently being considered by Dundee City Council.
