The countdown to Christmas begins in one of Dundee’s most picturesque suburbs, as Broughty Ferry’s famous Lights Night returns on Thursday 20 November.
Organised by the Broughty Ferry Traders’ Association (BFTA), the annual event will fill the town centre with festive cheer from 6pm to 9pm.
Now celebrating its 21st year, Lights Night has become one of the city’s most anticipated festive traditions. Each year, thousands of people gather to watch the town’s Christmas lights sparkle into life, marking the official start of the holiday season in the Ferry.
This year’s celebration promises to be bigger and brighter than ever, with live performances, street entertainment, and the return of Dundee’s largest on-street carnival. Brook Street, Gray Street and Fort Street will be closed to traffic and transformed into a pedestrian-friendly winter wonderland for families and friends to enjoy.
Entertainment throughout the evening will include local school choirs, theatre groups, and festive performers spreading Christmas spirit across the Ferry.
Visitors can also look forward to a dazzling Ferris wheel, big rides, stalls, and family-friendly attractions courtesy of Horne’s Fun Fair.
The event isn’t just about the lights – it’s about local flavour too. Broughty Ferry’s well-loved cafes and restaurants will serve up seasonal treats and hot drinks to keep everyone warm, while street food stalls will tempt visitors with festive snacks.
Organisers say the event continues to be a highlight for the community and a perfect way to bring people together to celebrate the season. With something for all ages, it’s set to once again showcase the best of Broughty Ferry’s charm and festive spirit.
The event is free to attend and open to everyone. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early to soak up the atmosphere before the big switch-on moment lights up the Ferry for Christmas 2025.
