Broughty Ferry RNLI to feature on Saving Lives at Sea

Broughty Ferry RNLI will take centre stage on national television tonight as the incredible work of the local lifeboat crew features on BBC Two’s Saving Lives at Sea.

Cameras have been following volunteers at Broughty Ferry Lifeboat Station for months, capturing what really happens when the pagers go off and the crew are called into action.

Until now, the team have had to keep their involvement in the programme under wraps - but tonight viewers across the country will finally get a glimpse behind the scenes at one of Dundee’s most important emergency services.

Saving Lives at Sea follows RNLI volunteers around the UK as they respond to emergencies on the water, giving viewers an insight into the skill, bravery and commitment required from crews when a call comes in.

For Broughty Ferry, that means showcasing the volunteers who give up their own time to help protect people on the River Tay and surrounding waters.

But the programme will also offer an insight into the people behind the lifeboats, including the families who support volunteers knowing that a pager can go off at any moment.

Broughty Ferry RNLI said the programme was a chance for people who have ever wondered what happens when the pager sounds to see exactly what goes on behind the scenes.

The station also paid tribute to its volunteers, their families and everyone who continues to support the lifeboat.

Broughty Ferry has a proud and longstanding connection with the RNLI, with generations of volunteers serving the community and helping save lives on the Tay and beyond.

Tonight is a fantastic opportunity for the rest of the country to see some of that work for themselves.

Saving Lives at Sea featuring Broughty Ferry RNLI airs tonight on BBC Two at 8pm and will also be available afterwards on BBC iPlayer.
