American aerospace firm buys Dundee company to launch European operations

A major American aerospace company is establishing its first European engine after taking over a Dundee engineering firm.
Barnes Aerospace has acquired Dundee-based ATL Turbine Services, a specialist engineering company with more than 30 years of experience, as reported by Insider Media.
The move means Dundee will become an important base for the American company’s work across Europe, helping support customers in the aviation industry and beyond.
And it’s another exciting international connection for the City of Discovery.
A Dundee business with over 30 years of experience
ATL Turbine Services has spent more than three decades repairing and restoring parts used in powerful turbine engines.
These engines are used in aircraft, ships and industrial machinery, making the company’s specialist work important to several industries.
Now, ATL is joining Barnes Aerospace, an international company which manufactures, repairs and maintains parts for the aerospace industry.
The acquisition will allow the Dundee business to become part of a much larger global network.
Why has Barnes Aerospace chosen Dundee?
By acquiring ATL, Barnes Aerospace gains an established operation in Scotland, allowing it to serve customers across Europe more easily.
The company also hopes to build on ATL’s existing expertise and develop additional repair services in the future.
Mike J. Mosley, Chief Executive of Barnes Aerospace, said ATL brings specialist skills, technical knowledge and an established presence in an important market.
Meanwhile, Wayne Thompson, Operations Director at ATL Turbine Services, welcomed the opportunities the deal could create.
He said the partnership would allow the company to expand its services while continuing to invest in its people and capabilities in Scotland.
Another big international connection for Dundee
Dundee has a proud history of engineering and innovation, and this latest development shows how local expertise continues to attract attention from international companies.
For ATL, the acquisition opens the door to new opportunities as part of a worldwide aerospace business.
Although no new jobs or specific investment figures have been announced, the companies have highlighted plans to develop their services and capabilities.
And with a Dundee company now helping establish Barnes Aerospace’s first European repair operation, it’s another example of the specialist skills and expertise being developed right here in the city.
