Abertay University has secured a major international recognition, further strengthening Dundee’s reputation as one of the UK’s leading cities for games education and digital creativity.
The university’s programmes within its Centre for Excellence in Games Education have achieved Epic Unreal Partner: GOLD status.
The award is given by Epic Games to institutions that demonstrate outstanding teaching, research and specialist expertise using Unreal Engine, one of the world’s most widely used game development tools.
The recognition highlights the quality of work being produced by Abertay’s students and staff, as well as the depth of experience being built in Dundee’s games sector.
Unreal Engine is used not only in video games, but also in film, TV, virtual production and interactive media, making the skills taught at Abertay increasingly valuable.
Abertay said the achievement reflects years of investment in games education and close collaboration with industry partners. The university thanked its lecturers, researchers and students for their continued innovation, as well as Epic Games for supporting the programmes.
Dundee has long been known as a city of games, with a strong history in digital design and interactive entertainment. This latest recognition adds to that legacy, helping attract students, talent and creative businesses to the city.
University leaders say the GOLD status helps ensure Dundee remains at the forefront of games and interactive media education, while giving students the skills needed to work on global projects straight from the city.
