The Dundee community came together in a powerful display of kindness and compassion on Sunday, raising over £11,000 at a special fundraiser held at Sandy’s Bar in memory of Dr Fortune Gomo.
The event was organised to support Dr Gomo’s family following her tragic death last weekend.
Throughout the day, locals poured into the bar to show their support, with live music performances, a charity raffle, and an auction helping to raise the impressive total. The event was a heartfelt tribute to Dr Gomo and a reflection of Dundee’s close-knit spirit.
In a statement, Sandy’s Bar shared their gratitude: “We would like to thank every person and business that donated to the raffle and auction.
We also want to thank all the musicians who came in to perform. What a special thing it is when the whole community comes together like this.
Over £9,000 raised - and still counting! This really shows what a special place Dundee is.”
Dr Gomo’s sudden passing on South Road last Saturday has deeply affected many across the city. Tributes have continued to pour in for the respected doctor, who was described by those who knew her as kind, dedicated, and full of warmth.
The funds raised will go directly to supporting Dr Gomo’s family as they navigate the difficult weeks ahead. Organisers have confirmed that anyone with uncollected raffle or auction prizes will be contacted shortly.
Sunday’s fundraiser served as a powerful reminder of Dundee’s generosity and unity - a city that rallies together when it matters most.
