Chess: The Musical

Chess: The Musical is a gripping tale of love, politics and high-stakes competition set against the backdrop of the Cold War. With music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus (ABBA) and lyrics by Tim Rice, the show follows two rival chess grandmasters—one American, one Soviet—whose personal and political battles mirror the tensions of their nations. As they clash in a world championship match, a love triangle emerges between the American’s former lover and the Soviet challenger, leading to drama, betrayal and sacrifice. Dundee Youth Music Theatre brings this powerful story to life with a fresh, youthful energy and emotional depth.
