Dundee is poised to reap the rewards of a pioneering nature initiative set to launch in collaboration with the Eden Project.
The Courier reports that the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) is teaming up with Eden and Bath Spa University to introduce the Playful Green Planet programme.
This innovative project aims to revolutionize how children engage with nature and their community through outdoor creative play.
The Coldside area of the city has been selected as one of the initial locations in the UK to benefit from this initiative. Local communities will have a say in the development of the project.
Local artists will collaborate to transform the Coldside area into vibrant outdoor play spaces, inspired by the Forest of Imagination’s ‘mini Edens’. The project will be overseen by local environmental and social experts, ensuring that spaces and activities are co-created with input from local children.
The Maxwell Community Centre and Garden, along with the 'Toadstool Trails' project led by artist Suzanne Scott and the Dundee Medical School Healthcare Improvement Team, will spearhead the transformation in Coldside. The Eden Project will provide guidance based on its experience in developing nature-based activities for children.
The teams will collaborate closely with local communities to design spaces that cater to their needs, potentially expanding existing community programs, enhancing biodiversity, or making spaces more inclusive. The National Lottery Community Fund is backing the project, with further details to be revealed in the future.
