Dundee Is Open is Dundee Culture’s social media campaign focusing on Dundee’s route coming out of lockdown as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The campaign is being used to let people know about the latest guidance on how to #StaySafe to prevent contracting the virus.​


  • Camperdown Country Park is now open
  • Dundee golf venues are now open
  • Discovery Point is now open
  • Verdant Works is now open
  • Dundee Museum of Transport now open
  • HMS Unicorn now open
  • Dundee Science Centre to re-open at the end of July
  • McManus Galleries will re-open on 24 August
  • V&A Dundee will re-open on 27 August
  • DCA will re-open on 4 September


  • University of Dundee - Currently, the University of Dundee are planning to get the campus back up and running by October 2020 which will be the beginning of the next academic year at the university. Semester One teaching will end on Friday 18 December 2020. Teaching in Semester Two will begin on 18 January 2021, and the remainder of the academic session remains as already published.

  • Abertay University ​- Abertay University are aiming to open for its next academic year in September. New signage will be in place when students return and will also be advising students and staff to use hand sanitiser when going about campus to avoid spreading the virus. Updates will be made by the university soon on the use of face masks in campus

  • Dundee and Angus College - Some student groups and courses will begin from 11 August 2020, but they will implement a staggered start, with the start dates of the majority of our full-time courses delayed until week beginning 21 September 2020. The College will get in touch with all students to advise them of what the new start and end dates for their course will be.

  • Dundee schools ​- Dundee schools will reopen to pupils on a phased basis from Wednesday August 12, with full-time lessons beginning from Monday August 17, if it safe to do so. Safety measures will be in place in all schools for the protection of staff and pupils. More details on these arrangements, as well as issues like transport, will be issued when details are confirmed.


  • Dundee Football Club - Dundee will be participating in the Scottish Championship which kickstarts on 17 October.

  • Dundee United Football Club - Dundee United will be participating in the Scottish Premiership which kickstarts on 1 August. Dundee United are playing against St Johnstone in the Tayside derby on the 1 August.

In shops across the city, the staff are encouraging a 2 metre social distancing rule. As of recently, the Scottish Government have made the decision to make wearing face masks compulsory when visiting shops and other places. A lot of the mainstream stores in Dundee are now back open and encouraging social distancing rules.


As lockdown continues to ease, the Scottish Government are promoting a 'stay safe' message to make sure people are vigilant to prevent them from contracting COVID-19. The Scottish Government have provided news and updates on coronavirus and it's impact on Scotland.   • Dundee Coronavirus Support Group - A group on Facebook where you can mingle with others and share up to date information on what is happening in Dundee

  • Dundee Foodbank - accepting donations of food​


Dundee Culture is not being fully affected by coronavirus due to the benefit of being an online platform although several things have been postponed and moved online:

  • Meetings for Dundee Culture have been moved online until further notice
  • Dundee Culture Studios has closed until further notice for personal reasons due to COVID-19
  • Access Dundee, Dundee Culture's new disability access guide postponed until further notice
  • Dundeecast, Dundee Culture's new podcast series postponed until further notice
